If you are reading this manual, you have either become a father, are about to become a father, or have accidentally picked up the wrong paperwork while looking for the TV remote.

Please note:
– No father has ever actually read this manual before becoming a dad.
– Most fathers simply figure things out as they go.
– This manual exists only to confirm what we have long suspected:
– Nobody really knows what they are doing.

CHAPTER 1: REQUIRED DAD PHRASES
Every father must master the following phrases:
“Did you try turning it off and back on?”
“Who left every light in the house on?”
“We have food at home.”
“Ask your mother.”
“I’ll look at it later.”
“No, I don’t need Google Maps.”

Failure to use these phrases regularly may result in immediate review by the National Dad Association.

CHAPTER 2: WIFI TROUBLESHOOTING
Every father must assume responsibility for the household internet.

The moment Wi-Fi slows down, every family member is required to ask:
“Dad, is the internet broken?”

The father must then perform the sacred ritual:
Step 1: Unplug the router.
Step 2: Wait ten seconds.
Step 3: Plug it back in.
Step 4: Become a hero.

This procedure works approximately 92% of the time
and 100% of the time in Dad stories.

CHAPTER 3: THE ART OF HOME REPAIR
When something breaks, every father must follow these steps:
Step 1: Look at it.
Step 2: Take a picture of it.
Step 3: Watch three YouTube videos.
Step 4: Become convinced he can fix it.
Step 5: Spend $87 at Home Depot to avoid a $40 repair bill.
Step 6: Fix it.
Step 7: Tell everyone how much money was saved.

CHAPTER 4: GRILLING AND OTHER FORMS OF OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP
Every father must believe he alone possesses the ancient knowledge of fire.

Regardless of weather conditions, he must stand over the grill and announce:
“Just a few more minutes.”
For approximately thirty-seven minutes.

Bonus points are awarded for carrying tongs and clicking them together twice before cooking.
No one knows why this happens.
It simply does.

CHAPTER 5: THE DAD TECHNOLOGY PARADOX
Every father must be capable of fixing every device in the house despite receiving no formal training. Children will bring him phones, tablets, laptops, TVs, gaming systems, printers, and occasionally appliances.

The father will press one button.
Everything will work again.

He will then be asked:
“What did you do?”

Nobody knows.
Not even Dad.

CHAPTER 6: FAMILY ROAD TRIPS
Today’s fathers no longer get lost.
GPS handles that.
Instead, fathers spend road trips arguing with the GPS.

Acceptable statements include:
“I know a faster way.”
“That’s not how we usually go.”
“I’ve lived here for twenty years.”

Five minutes later the GPS is proven correct.
This information should never be discussed again.

CHAPTER 7: ASSEMBLING FURNITURE
Furniture assembly has changed.

The challenge is no longer building it.
The challenge is understanding instructions that contain no words.
Only pictures.

Thousands of fathers have spent entire Saturdays trying to interpret what appears to be an ancient Scandinavian treasure map.

Success is measured by whether the furniture stands upright when finished.

CHAPTER 8: DAD TEXT MESSAGES
Every father develops a unique texting style.

Common examples include:
“OK.”
“Yep.”
“Sounds good.”
“👍”
“Call me.”

Many fathers also believe punctuation is optional and autocorrect is a personal enemy.
Occasionally a father will attempt voice-to-text.

The result may read:
“I’m at the store bananas lawn mower Tuesday where are you.”

Nobody knows what this means.
Not even Dad.
Yet somehow, every family learns to understand it perfectly.

CHAPTER 9: THE SECRET LIFE OF DADS
At this point, we leave the humorous portion of the manual and reveal information fathers rarely discuss.

A father may look confident.
But often he is worried.

A father may seem strong.
But sometimes he is tired.

A father may act like he has all the answers.
But many nights he lies awake wondering if he is getting any of it right.

He worries about bills.
He worries about health.
He worries about the future.
He worries about his family.
He carries burdens he rarely talks about because he wants those he loves to feel secure.

CHAPTER 10: WHAT FATHERS REALLY BUILD
Most fathers never build skyscrapers.
Most fathers never become famous.
Most fathers never make history books.

But they build something greater.
They build homes.
They build stability.
They build memories.
They build confidence.
They build character.
They build opportunities for their children.

And often they do it one ordinary day at a time.
One early morning.
One late night.
One sacrifice.
One prayer.
One difficult decision.
One act of love.

CHAPTER 11: THE FINAL LESSON
The greatest fathers are not perfect fathers.

They are fathers who keep showing up.
They apologize when they fail.
They learn when they make mistakes.
They love even when they are exhausted.
They keep trying even when they feel inadequate.

Because fatherhood has never been about perfection.
It has always been about presence.
