The Ride Home Playlist: Sacred Moments on a Very Normal Commute

It had been one of those days — the kind that leaves your brain fried, your patience thin, and your coffee cup empty long before noon. As I slid into the driver’s seat and hit “shuffle,” I wasn’t expecting therapy. But what I got felt like a cosmic playlist curated by someone who had been eavesdropping on my entire day.

The first song set the tone: “Stay With Me.” A fitting plea, considering I was already talking myself into staying composed and not collapsing into a puddle of exhaustion.

Then “I Swear.” Oh, yes. I swear — I’ve reached my limit of “quick favors” and “urgent” emails that somehow only land in my inbox.

Next, “Secrets.” Perfect. Because the universe clearly knows I’m still trying to uncover the mystery of where my motivation disappeared to sometime around 2 p.m.

“Always Be My Baby” came on next — a gentle, slightly mocking reminder that my responsibilities are never leaving me. They’ve settled in permanently, humming that chorus from the laundry pile.

Then, out of nowhere: “Who Says You Can’t Go Home?” Well, according to traffic, my GPS, and three consecutive red lights — apparently no one can go home, Jon Bon Jovi.

As I crawled through another intersection, “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” filled the car. Nothing says poetic melancholy like eating drive-thru fries in solitude while the Backstreet Boys croon your despair.

Just when I thought I’d reached my emotional limit, “Unwell” came on. And honestly? Never felt so seen.

But before I could sink completely into self-pity, “Candy” burst through the speakers — bright, nostalgic, and a little ridiculous. It made me laugh. The world wasn’t fixed, but the song reminded me to keep a little sweetness in the chaos.

Finally, “Crazy.” The perfect finale. Because yes, the day was crazy. The playlist was crazy. But there’s something oddly comforting about realizing that even in the madness, there’s still music that gets it — and maybe, just maybe, a higher power with a sense of humor.
